CLS operates a Scholarship Class for 40 students who have difficulty attending State School and the Language School.

Although State School in Cambodia is free to attend, some families are still unable to cover the incidental costs required to educate their children; for example, school uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, pens and pencils. In a country were many families live on an income of less than $2 per day, spending money on school supplies takes a back seat to spending money on food.

CLS supports these families through assisting with financially demanding aspects of attending school. We offer these students free English classes at CLS. We provide uniforms, text books, study materials, bicycles and rain coats where possible.

This assistance allows these students to continue their education and improve their future education and employment opportunities.

How is the Scholarship Class Chosen? 

The Director of the School Mr Nget, Sothy meets with the Leader of the Chumkriel Commune as well as the Chumkriel State School teachers to identify the families in the community who are most in need. The students are chosen based on their family situation, their level of poverty and also their interest in learning. Home visits are done 1-2 times per year to check on the students and their families. The students in the scholarship class are among the most dedicated students at CLS.

            Sponsorship assistance allows these students to continue their education and improve their future education and employment opportunities.

How much does it cost?

The cost of sponsoring a student is only $65US per year. Your sponsorship includes:  English classes (50 weeks of the year), a new school uniform, notebooks, textbooks, a schoolbag, raincoat and torch.

Some Sponsors have also purchased a new bicycle for their Scholarship student at a cost of $45US. A new bicycle not only helps the students get to school more easily but it also helps their entire family have a better quality of life.

New Scholarship donations can be made at any time throughout the year. For people who continue to sponsor children every year we ask for these contributions in September for the following year.
