Dorsu

Dorsu - Cambodian for the effort a person makes consistently while odds seem against them; to keep trying.

Dorsu was established in 2008 as an income generating initiative of Chumkriel Language School (CLS). Dorsu proceeds fund the free education and services provided to the community through Chumkriel Learning Centre (CLC).

Dorsu is a social enterprise producing a variety of ethically made clothing and accessories. By creating a viable employment and learning opportunity this project enables Cambodians to learn skills in a clean, safe and positive work environment.

Dorsu currently has five employees who

- are actively involved in all aspects of the project including: establishing operation procedures, training of new staff and product development

- receive meals and and benefits while working in a comfortable and safe environment

- receive a salary wage, rather than per product payment to encourage focus towards personal skills development as well as production

CLS director Mr Thy and Dorsu management work together to develop the project ensuring that the program coincides with CLS aims and objectives and meets community needs.

Dorsu strongly values sustainable development; meeting immediate community needs without compromising their future ability to meet their own needs. This is achieved by doing business with social aims and operating ethically to generate long term and sustainable, positive change.

The current primary goal is to have the business completely run by the Cambodian staff, independent of western involvement, and financially, to cover the entire operation costs of CLC by the end of 2010
