Chumkriel Language School (CLS) offers English evening classes to approximately 300 local students. Classes run Monday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm. CLS fills the gap in currently available English education in the Chumkriel Community by offering Beginner to Advanced classes. The fees for the classes are less than half of what they are in the town of Kampot. This gives every child (and adult) in the community access to good quality English lessons.

The majority of jobs in Cambodia now require written and spoken English. Unfortunately the current State School curriculums in Cambodia do not include English classes until grade 7. Most families are forced to pay for their children to attend private classes to supplement their education. Chumkriel is a very poor community and CLS is filling the gap in the English education of the children of the Community by offering affordable English classes. More and more university courses in Cambodia are also being taught in English. The earlier our students start studying English the easier it will be for them when they pursue post-secondary education.

As the Language School develops, focus will be on improving the teachers abilities to continue to provide quality education.
By creating access to English classes and encouraging personal development CLS is providing skills that will allow for improved future educational and employment opportunities for the children of the Chumkriel Community.
